Namibia Service 27th Oct 2013On 27 October His Eminence Archbishop Sergios officiated at the Service of the Holy Eucharist which also included the Greek National Day Celebration and the Feast of the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.

It was also the third Memorial Service for the late Yianni , son of Mr  and Mrs Savvas.

The “rainbow” congregation was truly a reflection of all the elements that make up this vast and beautiful land with local dignitaries, non-Orthodox guests and the Orthodox families of the area, all gathered together to pay their respects to the late Yianni Savvas.

After the service, His Eminence paid tribute to the small close-knit community and spoke of the personal way in which each of us approaches Jesus Christ. The two miracles recounted in the Holy Gospel for the day, described how Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead and the healing of the woman with a flow of blood. Both of these miracles demonstrate the awesome power of God over life and death.

The first shows that Jesus Christ anticipated his own victory over death and in turn showed that death no longer has any hold on us because He is the author of life and He alone has power of life and death. The second is more personal – the unclean woman had enough faith in Jesus and his divine healing power to reach out and touch the fringe of his cloak as he walked by, and she was instantly healed . Whatever it is you are looking for – God has exactly what you need.

After the service kolyva was shared by all present and a prayer was said to celebrate OXI Day, the Greek National Day on October 28 and a luncheon was hosted by the Consul Of Cyprus in Namibia, Mr Savvas at the Atlantic Hotel.
