The Celebration of the Greek National day and the Feast of the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary in Cape Town on Sunday, 27 October 2013
His Grace Bishop Gennadios, of Botswana, officiated at the Service of the Holy Eucharist together with Pater Nikolaos and Deacon Michael, in the presence of Mr Thomas Matsoukas, Consul of Greece in Cape Town, Mr Nassos Martalas, president of the Hellenic Community of Cape Town and Mr Andreas Coulbanis, President of the Hellenic Students Association of U C T. The students of the Greek School carried the Greek and South African flags into the church and recited the Lord’s Prayer. The Greek Consul in Cape Town, Mr Thomas Matsoukas, addressed the congregation and called on everyone to salute Greece with a resounding chorus of “Zito Hellas!” ( Long live Greece!). and one of the children, Dimitri Philippou read out an account of the OXI Day saga in English.
After the service a celebratory lunch was held at the Hellenic Community Club and the Greek school children entertained everyone with poetry and Greek
