On Sunday 18 August, His Eminence officiated at the service of the Holy Eucharist at the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, in the presence of the Ambassador of Cyprus, Mr. Petros Nacouzis and the chairman of the Hellenic Community of Port Elizabeth Mr. Prodromos Galatalis.
The service to celebrate the Dormition of the Mother of God, the Theotokos, included an Artoklasia offered by the Godparents of the Church, Andreas and Thelma Christodoulou.
After the service, His Eminence welcomed the new priest Archimandrite Joachim, and Mr. Nacouzis, and invited Mr. Nacouzis to address the congregation. His Eminence also welcomed Mr. George Tsiftis, the Greek teacher who has arrived from Greece. Mr. Tsiftis has spent many years in the past working in South Africa.
The service was followed by an official lunch where His Eminence was able to spend time with community members and their children. The Pitsiladis family launched a raffle in aid of the repairs of the church building and an amount of eighty thousand rand was raised.
