Blessing of the Home for the Elderly of KZN – 22 June 2013.
On Saturday, 22 June, His Eminence, Archbishop Sergios held the blessing of the new home for the elderly of KwaZulu-Natal. The welfare committee of the Hellenic Community of KwaZulu-Natal have opened a mid-way home to serve the needs of their elderly, under the direction of His Eminence Archbishop Sergios. A few years ago His Eminence suggested to the chairman of the KZN Hellenic Community at the time, Mr. Haralambos Liasides, that they establish a home for their elderly. Mr. Liasides took up the challenge and assisted the Welfare Committee to establish the home which has now become a reality. The home has been modeled on the Elpis Home for the elderly in Rondebosch, Cape Town, which was completed in 2003 with the help of the Welfare Committee in Cape Town, under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Sergios.
