Church of St GeorgeOn Saturday 26 April His Eminence Archbishop Sergios travelled to East London for the Services and celebrations to be held at the Church of Saint George in East London.

The Orthodox Community is one of the smallest and vibrant parishes in the Archdiocese of Good Hope. The Church was established in 1975 during the time of the late Archbishop Paul Varnavas. The main benefactor, a Lebanese Orthodox gentleman by the name of George Hollard bequeathed money in his will to the Hellenic Community to build a Church.

The property was purchased with an existing building, (formerly a protestant church) which was converted into an Orthodox Church. The Church, which was named after Saint George to honour the benefactor serves the Communities of East London, King Williamstown, Queenstown, Fort Beaufort, Umtata and all the towns which were part of the former Ciskei and Transkei homelands.
